All the Toppings

I love toppings on savory food. Like love love. Whenever we travel, we find a new hot sauce or spice that can be added to savory foods and some I keep in rotation. Here are some favorites.

This sesame and pepper blend we picked up from Kyoto.

This pepper sauce from the same store in Kyoto. It has a curry flavor to it.

I love this garlic spread by Kewpie on anything. I even put it on my rice sometimes.

I mean, if this isn’t in your pantry, stop what you’re doing and buy it now. Furikake on everything!!!

These basics are also a must: huy fong garlic chili paste, kewpie mayo, huy fong sriracha, Osmo garlic salt, Kauai juice co hot sauces – all of them, and Aardvark hot sauce.

Here’s an example of how I use it all plus some rice wine vinegar:

Roast some broccoli tossed with olive oil and Osmo garlic salt on 375 for 20 mins until crispy edges.

Add cooked rice to a bowl and sprinkle a little rice wine vinegar and a line of garlic spread.

Chop up some spinach and add to the bowl of hot rice and broccoli. Drizzle with chili garlic paste.

Fry an egg and lay on top of spinach and rice

Cut up some cucumber and add to the side of the bowl. Sprinkle with the sesame pepper and furikake.

So damn good. Enjoy!
